how PRS stains their sunburst guitars

Found a video of the PRS sunburst staining process on YT.  Step by step using alcohol based dye/tint:

there are five different dye rags
  • #1 dark brown dye rag
  • #2 brown dye rag
  • #3 brown amber dye rag
  • #4 amber dye rag
  • #5 light amber dye rag

Step one (using #2 brown stain): dab perimeter on body, fill in outer edge of body.  work stained area a couple times.

Step two(using #3 brown amber stain rag): dab inner perimeter (BUT NOT CENTER) of stain, work brown outer edge into inner dabbed area.

Step three (using #4 amber stain rag): Work in area just covered in step two to lighten blend.

Step four (using (using #5 light amber rag): Work entire un-stained center area and blend to edge.

Step five (using #1 dark brown rag): run along outer edge of body.

Step six (using #2 brown stain rag): blend outer edge back into center.

Step seven (using #3 brown amber rag): further blend edge

Step eight (using #4 amber rag): blend inner edge

Step nine (using #5 light amber rag): blend center

10: using clean rag, dry run over entire surface to remove excess stain.

11: using clean rag, blend outer edge all the way around

12: using clean rag, blend inner center

13:adding third(primary) color:  starting from center, work primary color (bright yellow) , finish at the outer edge.

14:with clean rag dry down surface , complete.

Dry guitar (one day), prep for finishing (I'm think solarez -can't believe its not lacquer")
