video on getting maple grain to pop when staining

Found a nice video that is using a color scheme close to what I'm headed towards. I don't think I'll follow it but its a reference point.


Interesting comment on the vid:

What he recommends is to sand down to 220, wet the maple first and then apply the 1st coat of dark(blk or brn).  Sand with 220 and then stain with red or amber, sand with 220 and final stain with a ylw.  Complete with a coat of boiled linseed oil before moving on to finishing.

This PRS looks like its amber over drk brn instead of a medium brn.  Secondly the PRS uses a yellow amber rather than an orange amber.


Something that I'm considering is running a thin outer boundary of very dark brn as a outer border, maybe 3/8".  Still thinking about it...

Acoustic guitar has had an awful harmonic overtone on open B.  Since the overtone is still apparent when fretted I'm changing out the bridge.  I don't think the nut is contributing.  Bone compensation bridge ordered...
